They are often helped by their human friend, April, who discovered the turtles and befriends them. They are of teenage age, obviously, they know how to fight, and are always ready to help, which is why they become heroes of New York, defeating all sorts of crazy villains that appear through the city and try to do nasty things. Four turtles have been transformed into conscious beings thanks to experimentation in science, and they were raised by a rat in the sewers of New York City, with the turtles being trained in the martial arts by their master and father, which is why they are ninjas.
